ANSER panel at GAPSY17

Last week ANSER organised a panel discussion during the GAPSYM17 Conference on “Africa at the Intersection of Climate, Migration and Health Challenges”. The panel explored the critical connection between SRHR and ClimateChange, and the importance of addressing both to ensure a sustainable future.
The panel had an impressive line-up of speakers:
→ Malachi Arunda (Karolinska Institutet) presented scoping review findings on climate change’s impact on SRHR, analyzing 75 studies, mostly from Africa and the Western Pacific.
→ Celine Delacroix (Population Institute) emphasized the intersection of reproductive rights, population dynamics, and environmental sustainability
→ Lou Compernolle presented OASIS, showcasing evidence-based strategies used by advocates to shape gender-transformative climate policies
→ Brian Mqondisi Sibanda (HIGH Horizons & The Centre for Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Research Zimbabwe (CeSHHAR Zimbabwe) shed light on the impact of heat on healthcare workers’ well-being and the quality of care
→ Finally, Marleen Temmerman delivered an inspiring talk on the intersection of women’s reproductive rights and environmental challenges within the ICPD30 framework, reminding us of the urgent need to protect rights in a changing world.
In between we also showcased best practices from Amref International University (AMIU) and International Medical Corps
