ir. Victoria Deman
Victoria Deman specializes in hydro-climatic extremes, (sub)seasonal forecasting and machine learning.
Bio
I graduated from Ghent University with a master in Bioscience Engineering: Land, Water and Climate. For my master’s thesis, I examined seasonal precipitation forecasting using physics-based machine learning in the Horn of Africa region. Currently, I am a PhD candidate at the Hydro-Climate Extremes Lab working on the HEAT project. In the starting phase of my research, I use Lagrangian transport modelling (i.e. FLEXPART) with ERA5 reanalysis data for revealing source–receptor regions of moisture and heat for selected drought and heatwave events. Next, the goal is to develop a hybrid framework, combining physics and artificial intelligence, for subseasonal drought and heatwave forecasting.
