We are pleased to organize a unique lecture by Dr. Jonathan Braverman, an expert in the field of organoid modelling of various diseases including cancer, infectious diseases and rare/neglected diseases.
In 2022, Jonathan Braverman established the Braverman lab at the Innovative Genomics Institute at the University of California, Berkeley, USA. On January 31st, we are delighted to welcome him to Ghent, where he will also share his expertise during a one-hour lecture entitled:
“High-content medium-throughput screening of organoid co-cultures to identify novel therapeutic strategies for colon cancer.”
The ability to generate precision cancer models by CRISPR editing organoids enables high-fidelity in vitro models of solid tumors. This tissue level fidelity is especially important in the context of cancers of epithelial origin where traditional 2D cell line models fail to recapitulate the tissue architecture, transcriptional signatures and functional behaviors of epithelial cells. The lecture will focus on recent efforts to establish automated confocal microscopy based screening platforms with multiplexed fluorescently labeled colon cancer organoids, with a focus on identifying therapeutically relevant drug/cytokine interactions as well as studying the mechanism of action of cytotoxic compounds.
