Amber Lepoutre
PhD researcher
As a Joint PhD student, Amber works at the Food Microbiology and Food Preservation (FMFP) Research Unit at Ghent University and the Molecular Cell Biology lab at KU Leuven. Furthermore, her project is in collaboration with Kemin Food Technologies. During her PhD, Amber studies natural antifungal compounds active against bread spoilage organisms as a new biopreservative strategy.
Amber obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology in 2019 at the KU Leuven. In 2021, she graduated as Master of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology and Microbiology. During her master thesis, she studied the regulation of Candida glabrata neutral trehalase Nth1. In February 2022, she obtained a VLAIO Baekeland scholarship and was granted the opportunity to work in the FMFP (UGent) and MCB (KUL) labs.
