Emma BralInnovative and Sustainable Production of Functional Plant-Based Cosmetic Ingredients

She is a PhD student at Ghent University (Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, department of Food Technology, Safety and Health) and ILVO (Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food).

Emma obtained a Msc. (2021) in Pharmaceutical Care at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ghent University.

The doctoral research runs concurrently with, and is supported by, the InnCoCells Project (www.inncocells.org). InnCoCells is a European Horizon 2020 project aiming to develop innovative plant-based production processes for the commercial exploitation of scientifically validated cosmetic ingredients using profitable and sustainable plant cell cultures, aeroponic cultivation, and plants grown in the greenhouse and field.

The PhD thesis’ provisional title is ‘Innovative and Sustainable Production of Functional Plant-Based Cosmetic Ingredients’. The primary goal of the thesis is to identify plant-based bioactive compounds with an evidence-based functionality for cosmetic applications. The second objective is to develop innovative and sustainable production methods for ingredient recovery.
