Julie Kileste
PhD Student
Research Field: Quality of dry foods, shelf-life, packaging optimization, food waste reduction
Julie Kileste obtained her Master’s degree in Biosciences Engineering (Food Sciences and Nutrition) at Ghent University in 2020. She did her Master’s thesis in the research group NutriFOODchem, after which she started her PhD in the same department. More specifically, her PhD contributes to the research groups of Food Chemistry and Packaging.
Her research project aims to gain insights into the combined effect of oxygen, relative humidity and temperature on the chemical and physical degradation phenomena in dry foods through a model-based approach. The final models enable the selection of optimal packaging materials with the required oxygen and moisture barriers that guarantee the desired shelf life of the dry food product.
