Lieven Van de Vondel is curently working on the Atmo-Flor project as a PhD student.

The aim of this project is the optimalization of preservation and transport of ornamental plants and plant parts through the whole production chain.

The project is funded by VLAIO-LA and is executed in cooperation with the department of plants and crops (UGent) and the PCS (research center for ornamental plants).

Lieven received a MSc degree in Bioscience Engineering Technology: Agriculture and Horticulture in 2017 from Ghent University in Belgium and is holder of a teacher's degree. Since 2019, he joined Ghent University as a PhD student on the Atmo-Flor project.

 His research focusses on preservation techniques for living plants and plant parts. The goal of his interdisciplinary research is to explore which parameters can positively influence the preservation of a wide variety of ornamental plant species throughout the whole production chain.

His research will contribute to a more sustainable ornamental crop production. In 2017 he won the VBIG award for social engagement combined with excellent study results
