Mia Eeckhout
Professor Food and Feed Technology
Mia Eeckhout received a MSc degree in Bioscience Engineering in 1986 from Ghent University in Belgium and obtained her PhD, entitled 'Species characterization of heavy metals in soils”, in 1991.
In 1995 she became Professor in the field of Food and Feed Technology at the Ghent Technical University in the curriculum of Industrial Engineer Food Industry. Since 2013 she is full professor at Ghent University. Since 1989 she is leading the Laboratory of Cereal and Feed Technology at Campus Schoonmeersen in Ghent.
Within the field of cereal and feed technology she has a broad expertise in feed processing and is well known within the feed sector due to an intensive service provision in favor of companies and sector organizations, helping them to solve todays’ and future problems and research questions.
Furthermore she:
- is the chair of the Feed Design Lab, a private consortium and pilot feed plant situated in the Netherlands, since 2014. She introduced training programs in feed technology for feed chain suppliers and nutritionist and put effort in strengthening of the platforms partnerships.
- is member of the scientific committee of FASFC-FAVV from 2017-2020.
- is co-chair of the working group on HACCP from the Belgian Feed Association BFA.
- edited, since 2005, several Guides for the implementation of food safety management systems (Autocontrolegidsen Belgium) f.e. Flour Milling Industries, Bakery industry, Agro-food supply chain operators.
- is involved in international projects in developing countries which gives her the ability to broaden her knowledge and permits her to reflect on her research from a global perspective.
Her aim is to lower the threshold for companies to see university experts as scientific partners able to help them to look for sustainable solutions for actual problems.
