Forward osmosis

Forward osmosis (FO) is a fairly new technique, which allows water transport through a membrane along the osmotic gradient. In fact the reverse process of RO, water flows from a dilute to a concentrated solution, through a membrane. Since this membrane is dense, FO prevents passage of salts and other unwanted compounds (such as pharmaceuticals). Several FO-setups are available for analysis of multiple membranes and/or solutions.
