My research focuses on reverse osmosis (RO) brine management. While RO is an efficient water treatment method, brine production poses environmental challenges. The presence of calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) in brackish water limits water recovery to about 75% due to membrane fouling.

To increase recovery rates and mitigate environmental impact, attention has shifted to resource recovery from brines. Using Ca and Mg for CO2 sequestration via mineralization could both extract valuable resources and raise water recovery to 90-98%. This approach, aligned with reducing CO2 emissions and better waste management, will be tested in the EU-funded BRINE-CARB project.
