Karlien Dejaeger
Information
Karlien joined the PaInT research group in October 2019 after completing her Master’s degree in bio-science engineer ‘catalytic technology’ at the University of Leuven. She did an internship at the wastewater treatment company Pantarein in Mechelen where she got passionate about the concept of water treatment.
Her research is about the physical fractionation of natural organic matter in sources of drinking water with the use of membranes. The goal of this fractionation is to obtain different fractions of natural organic matter which can be analyzed for their reactivity towards chlorine and/or their potential to introduce bacterial growth. The reaction of natural organic matter with chlorine is undesired as it causes toxic by-products and thus, pose human health risks.
