Opening of the International days with Dr Jackie Epila (Uganda) as keynote speaker. She graduated at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering as a Master in Environmental Sanitation (2012) and obtained her PhD in Applied Biological Sciences in 2016. Currently, she holds multiple positions at Lira University (Uganda) serving as a Senior Lecturer Chemistry, Open Distance eLearning Coordinator and mentor. She is also a UNESCO-OWSD-fellow (Trieste, Italy), VIB-IPBO Open Doors Fellow, a University Senate member and a research scholar in the Leaders of Africa Institute (Baltimore, US). Over the years, she has collaborated with Prof. dr. ir. Kathy Steppe of the Laboratory of Plant Ecology at the UGent Faculty of Bioscience Engineering. Currently they are working on the nutritional assessment and ecophysiology of the Ugandan Asystasia gangetica ssp. micrantha (a wild green leafy vegetable).
During this kick-off she will discuss her perspective on what constitutes an international mindset, her journey in our faculty, and the benefits of international mobility and collaboration.
