The UGent Congo Basin Centre of Expertise (UG-CBC) is led by Profs. P. Boeckx, M. Bauters, W. Hubau and H. Verbeeck. Together with a strong local network at various places in the Democratic Republic of the Congo they have been developing a multidisciplinary centre of expertise for Congo basin forest ecology, biogeochemistry and agronomy. They supervise young researchers consisting of a mixture of Belgian and Congolese MSc, PhD, postdocs and technicians. They have proven excellence, and are now more and more asked to join non-traditional, ad hoc international fundings programs from e.g. NASA, One Forest Vision (France), Japanese International Cooperation Agency, ENABEL, etc. During the world science café, they aim to share their experiences with a diverse panel of speakers from different origin, i.e. local vs. Belgian and different career stages – in a Congolese atmosphere.
