Research themes: Borders, migration governance and people on the move || Civil society, social work and solidarity
Ine Lietaert holds a PhD in Social Work and works as an assistant professor at the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy where she teaches International Social Work. She combines this with a position as assistant professor in Migration Governance and Regional Integration Studies at the United Nations University- CRIS, where she is the coordinator of the Migration and Social Policy research cluster.
Her research focuses on the impact of international/regional and national policies on social work and social support practices, with particular focus on the governance of ‘mobile’ groups in vulnerable situations, such as asylum applicants, return migrants, unaccompanied minors and (internally) displaced persons. She also focus on the impact of mobility and different types of borders and policies on the lives of vulnerable people, including their feeling of belonging, their copying strategies and their access to services, investigated through a socio-spatial research approach.
