Prof. Dr. M. Heyndrickx (voluntary visiting professor)
Marc Heyndrickx is a microbiologist and PhD at the Ghent University (Belgium). In 2010 he became visiting professor in bacterial zoonoses at the Department of Pathology, Bacteriology and Avian Diseases at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Ghent University. Since 2002 he is scientific director at the Institute of Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO, Belgium), where he leads a research team on food safety. He is author or co-author of more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He is member of the Superior Health Council of Belgium, section Food and Health.
Main Research
Identification, typing and virulence characterization of zoonotic pathogens and spoilage organisms
The expertise of his research group relates primarily to detection, identification, typing, virulence expression, antibiotic resistance transfer and remediation of zoonotic and other foodborne pathogens, spoilage organisms or enzymes. Specific techniques used are high resolution molecular typing and in vitro simulation of animal and human gastrointestinal tract by fermentation.
