Laboratory of Gene Therapy
The Laboratory of Gene Therapy at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Ghent University) was founded in 2008 by Prof. dr. Niek Sanders.
The research within the group can be divided into two major themes. A first cluster of projects focuses on the design and preclinical evaluation of tumor vaccines and other cancer immunotherapies, like e.g. cytokine therapy, for the treatment of cancer in companion animals and humans. In a second research theme the group concentrates on the design and preclinical evaluation of DNA and mRNA therapeutics for the treatment of cancer or infectious diseases. Besides these activities the group also focuses on the fabrication and in vivo optimization of targeted delivery strategies for chemotherapeutics.
The Laboratory of Gene Therapy is also involved in many other collaborative research projects that make use of our in vivo optical imaging system and animal facility.
