Compulsory programme

General regulations

Apart from the annual self-reflection report, which is compulsory for all PhD students, faculties can render the Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) compulsory - either in its entirety or in part - for all their students, for certain categories of students, or for certain doctoral titles. Faculties can moreover supplement the component of specialist courses with a set of regular course units that, however, cannot exceed the total study load of 30 ECTS. Faculties may also impose additional publication requirements on all their PhD students. Student should therefore check with their faculty whether they need to meet any additional publication requirements in order to complete their doctorate.

In their supplementary faculty regulations, faculties define for which students and doctoral titles the Doctoral Training Programme is made compulsory. When giving permission for admission to the doctorate, the faculty board informs PhD students of any compulsory Doctoral Training Programme. Exemptions can be granted (preferably on the basis of this form) to students for whom the Doctoral Training Programme has been made compulsory on condition that they demonstrably possess relevant, previously acquired competences or knowledge, are enrolled for a joint doctorate and/or are holders of a 'sandwich' scholarship.
