Specialist courses
Aim
Specialist courses (regularly taught courses, intensive seminars, summer or winter schools) offer top-level training aimed at deepening the discipline specific knowledge of the PhD student. Therefore, they have to comply with certain criteria:
- taught by (international) specialists in the field
- relevant to the research topic of the PhD student
- successful participation (incl. evaluation, if relevant) is required
Regulations
In order to be eligible for inclusion in the standard set of the Doctoral Training Programme, a specialist course should be:
- organised by Ghent University's Doctoral School
- OR recognised by Ghent University's Doctoral School. There are two types of such courses:
- PhD courses organised elsewhere (in Belgium or abroad)
- (exceptionally) regular course units organised at Ghent University and elsewhere (Master level and above)
In order to be eligible for inclusion in the maximum set of the Doctoral Training Programme, a specialist course should be:
- organised by Ghent University's Doctoral School (priority is always given to PhD students wanting to complete their standard set)
- OR a regular course unit organised at Ghent University or elsewhere (Bachelor level and above, max. 30 ECTS)
