Olbrechts Award presented to Silke Jacobs en Lamia Kocaman

(13-06-2024)

On June 8th 2024, Silke Jacobs and Lamia Kocaman received the annual Olbrechts Award at the MAS for their master's thesis “Transnational home-making in Ghent: Women with Turkish Migration Background (Re)Building in Wondelgem. Volume I: The Observation, Volume II: The Analysis” supervised by professors Luce Beeckmans and Johan Lagae.

Since 1969, the Olbrechts Society has supported European cultural-historical and anthropological research. In 2023, a significant shift was made: with a broadened perspective, the society now also focuses on research concerning non-European heritage. Each year, the society awards the Olbrechts Award, providing funds for research in these domains.

Part of the award-winning research project by Silke Jacobs and Lamia Kocaman, submitted within the Master of Science in Engineering: Architecture, is featured in the exhibition Wie bewaart, die blijft! Koru ve yaşat! This exhibition is free to visit at the STAM plein in Ghent until December 30th, 2024.
