Labo A is affiliated to Ghent University - Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. This 'Lab for Architecture' was established in 2009 in order to provide services and to conduct research in matters related to design. Its study and design work aims at making explicit the design decisions resulting in the architectural object, decisions about issues that can be situated in various registers and on various scale levels. Much attention goes to the object-context relation, and to the object's typological and topological definition.
Labo A functions as a scientific platform. Its staff members dispose of the scientific knowledge and a wide practical experience concerning the different aspects of architectural and urban design. The pooled knowledge and experience guarantees an efficient approach to the assignment. An executive and an advisory team are composed for each assignment. The executive team carries out the applied research or design assignment; the advisory team sees to methodology and quality monitoring.
