Anke Blommaert
Anke Blommaert (°1997) graduated in 2020 as a ‘Master of Science in Engineering: Architecture (Architectural Design and Construction Techniques)’ at Ghent University. Afterwards, she obtained the degree of teacher through the ‘Master of Teaching in Science and Technology (Engineering and Technology)’ at Ghent University. After a stint as an architect, she started in 2023 as researcher at the Research Group of Building Physics at Ghent University.
Anke's research zooms in on the durability and sustainability of bio-based building envelopes, specifically wooden structures like timber frame construction and CLT, paired with bio-based insulation materials. In her sustainability analysis, Anke dives deep into understanding the environmental impact of diverse materials in those bio-based building envelopes, employing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as her tool. On the durability front, she focusses on mould growth and wood decay due to environmental factors. Anke is not only looking at the potential degradation scenarios in today's climate, she is also exploring whether these building envelopes can stand the test of future climates.
She also helps in education, including assistance in building technology courses and the supervision of master theses.
