Marijke Steeman
Marijke Steeman is associate professor sustainable building technology at Ghent University. She graduated as a civil engineer-architect in 2005 at Ghent University. In 2010 she obtained her PhD entitled "Hygrothermal Modelling for Building Energy Simulation Applications" at the same university (supervisors Prof. A. Janssens and Prof. M. De Paepe). After her PhD, she worked for two years as a consultant in an engineering firm and as an R&D engineer in an international curtain wall company. In 2013 she was appointed professor at the University College Ghent and since 2015 she is affiliated with the department of architecture and urban planning at UGent.
She is responsible for the courses 'Building Physics', 'Building services', 'Energy performance of buildings' and 'Sustainable buildings' within the civil engineering technology and architectural program. Since 2017 she became the scientific coordinator of the postgraduate program 'Energy technology in buildings'. Her research interests are the environmental impact of materials and buildings through life cycle analysis, circular building strategies, deep energy renovation, hygrothermal performance of building components and passive cooling strategies.
