The symposium The Tale, the Image, and the Space: Narratives and Visuals for Spatial Planning, held at the Vandenhove Pavilion, serves as the prelude to the public defense of Annelies Staessen’s doctoral dissertation, A Director's Cut for Spatial Planning: A Cinematic Approach to the Flemish Urbanized Landscape.

During the symposium, two distinguished international speakers will share their unique perspectives on the representation of (urban) space:

  • Prof. Dr. Klaske Havik (TU Delft), Professor of Methods of Analysis and Imagination, with the lecture Literary Narrative for Spatial Analysis and Design.
  • Prof. Dr. Mark Tewdwr-Jones (UCL), Bartlett Professor of Cities and Regions, with the lecture Modern Planning on Film: Reshaping Space, Image and Representation.

Together, we will explore how narratives and visuals contribute to the analysis, design, and imagination of urban landscapes.

The lectures are free to attend, but registration is required by Monday, December 2.

The public defense will take place at 4 PM.
