Condition monitoring and active fault compensation of electrical machines
Condition monitoring has become mature in electrical machines. UGent extended the monitoring to detecting eccentricity and demagnetization problems of permanent magnets in axial flux machines with double rotor. Here, also asymmetrical defects can occur: different demagnetization in two rotors or different eccentricity in two air gaps. A step further is active fault compensation: the control of the machine is adapted so that the torque ripple – caused by the defects – is minimized. By making the machine multiphase, the degrees of freedom to modify the control of the machine become almost endless.
