Energy & Systems Lab

Research at EnSy is structured into smaller, specialized units known as research teams or groups. Each group is led by one or more permanent faculty members, who provide guidance and oversight. These teams also include a diverse range of members such as postdoctoral researchers, doctoral students, and students working on their graduation theses.

This collaborative structure fosters a dynamic and supportive environment for academic and scientific inquiry, promoting interdisciplinary research and facilitating the professional development of emerging scholars. By working in close-knit teams, members can contribute to advancing knowledge in their respective fields while benefiting from mentorship and shared expertise.

Electric Drives
The research regarding electrical drives is related mainly to modelling, dynamic behaviour and control of electric drives (e.g. induction machines, permanent magnet synchronous machines, switched reluctance motors, …), to electric machine design (e.g. losses in machines, electromagnetic noise of machines, …) and to power electronics for electrical drives (including both DC-AC inverters and DC-DC converters).

Energy systems & clusters comprise various aspects of transmission and distribution of electrical energy. Besides these power grid aspects, also the (electrical) energy systems aspects, including various technologies at supply and demand side and for energy storage, are investigated.

Dynamics of Electromechanical Systems
The study of dynamics of electro-mechanical systems focuses on understanding the interactions between electrical and mechanical components in complex systems. Key areas of interest include the dynamic behavior of system components, the impact of system parameters on performance, and the development of advanced control strategies to improve stability, efficiency, and responsiveness.
