Hydrogen embrittlement in pipelines and welds
Quasi-static fracture and damage mechanics - Laura De Pue
In the framework of the European Green Deal, existing pipelines will be reused for hydrogen transport and storage. The goal for this project is to develop a methodology to screen their fitness-for-service. During this research laboratory testing of hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility will be linked to the structural integrity of full scale pipelines, with emphasis on the welds that connect steel pipes. This will be done in an experimental-numerical way, combining test at multiple laboratory scales with a numerical model that describes size effects in fracture.
