Structural integrity of WAAM steel components
Remanufacturing of used products is an end-of-life strategy which can contribute to a more sustainable economy. The dimensional restoration of worn components can be realised by wire + arc additive manufacturing (WAAM). During this research, experimental and numerical tools will be developed to (a) quantify and mitigate process-induced residual stresses, (b) characterize interfacial strength (static and fatigue) in relation to microstructural properties, and (c) evaluate the feasibility of Pneumatic Impact treatment (PIT) to improve mechanical performance.
