Identification of wear failure modes by surface topography
The assessment of wear damage is vital for many applications. Current methods of wear identification involve manual assessment of worn images, which is prone to bias and subjectivity. In this investigation, worn surfaces from different applications are assessed with topography techniques. The research focuses on understanding how roughness parameters are related to the worn surfaces, including the proposal of new metrics. The outcome of this investigation will facilitate the analysis of worn surfaces, improving the objectiveness of wear classification systems.
