Neural circuit mapping using simultaneous DBS-fMRI and opto-fMRI
Optogenetics is a new method that uses a combination of optical and gene technologies to manipulate a specific group of neurons with an unprecedented spatial, temporal and cellular specificity. This is reflected in our results since the fMRI-response maps demonstrate a far more selective response to light stimulation as opposed to electrical stimulation (DBS = Deep Brain Stimulation or electrical stimulation; opto = optogenics or light stimulation).
