Description:
Bacteria-based self-healing concrete become a promising method to reduce the maintenance cost of concrete due to the micro crack. With sufficient nutrients, bacteria named Bacillus Sphaericus (BS) could precipitate CaCo3 which can filled and closed the micro crack. But in order to survive in the harsh environment of fresh concrete bacteria need a carrier as a protector. And at the moment the broadly used carrier such as hydrogel, micro capsule and vascular tube are quite expensive. Therefore more affordable carrier which also compatible with concrete mixture is needed in order to make the bacteria-based self-healing concrete well accepted in construction industry. In this research lightweight aggregate generated from fly ash, MSWI bottom ash and Sidoarjo mud (Lusi) were employed as alternative carrier for bacteria protector. So that in the end we can get affordable bacteria carrier generated from waste in manufacturing self-healing concrete.
