On January 1, 2024, the region around Japan's city Kanazawa was hit by a devastating earthquake. We want to support the victims, and show that solidarity can reach them from the other side of the world, from Ghent's sister city! That is why the Department of Languages and Cultures, Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Ghent University is organizing a benefit weekend to raise support.
On Saturday 20 January, the Gent-Kanazawa Supporters Club will open its doors for a "Hokuriku Arts & Crafts Experience"! Come and learn about different aspects of the Japanese culture in workshops, where you can try everything for yourself, from working with gold leaf from Kanazawa to whipping the perfect bowl of matcha.
Follow their social media for more info.
On Sunday 21 January, Belgian and Japanese musicians will join forces for a benefit concert "Support Japan 2024"! The concert starts at 2:30 p.m. in the MIRY Concert Hall.
Admission is free, but places should be reserved online.
