Prof. Van Bocxlaer graduated as pharmacist in 1986 and received his Ph.D. in pharmacy in 1992 from Ghent University. After spending one year at the Janssen Research Foundation, he was a post-doctoral at the Laboratory of Toxicology (RUG) for 3 years. Since 1997 he lectures medical and clinical biochemistry related courses at Ghent University, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences; and aspects of psychopharmaca and abuse, both at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Faculty of Law. He is director of the Lab. of Medical Biochemistry and Clinical Analysis and since 2010 he is also chairman of the department of Bioanalysis. In his research, clinical and pharmaceutical bioanalysis (quantitative analysis of drugs, proteins, xenobiotics, biomarkers), pharmacokinetics and bioanalytical mass spectrometry are the main study objects. As a pharmacist, prof. Van Bocxlaer is also acting member of the National council of the Belgian Chamber of Pharmacists.
Since 2014, he has become dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
