Xeurui Bao graduated from South China University of Technology in 20188 and joined the LPM as a Ph.D. student in October, 2018. Her research focuses on effect of supplemented carbon sources on antibiotic susceptibility of Pseudonomas aerugionosa (P. aeruginosa) in cystic fibrosis (CF) patient sputum.
As the primary pathogen associated with chronic infections in CF patients, P. aeruginosa is always studied using minimal medium, which is far from the reality. Besides, some carbon sources have been proven to potentiate the antibiotic efficiency in minimal medium. The aim of Xuerui's research is to discover the effect of extra carbon sources on the bacterial antibiotic susceptibility in CF patient sputum by cultivating P. aeruginosa in medium mimicking CF patient sputum and to elucidate the mechanisms behind the potentiating activity.
