Implementation of PAT systems in pharmaceutical freeze-drying processes.
Despite the disadvantages of processing time and cost, freeze-drying is one of the preferred way of stabilizing biopharmaceuticals drug products that are not stable for long periods of time in aqueous solution. Even if they are widely used, freeze-drying processes are not fully scientifically understood and are often inefficient black-boxes.
The overall aim of this PhD thesis is to develop a strategy to implement PAT systems in the freeze-drying process of biopharmaceuticals.
Monitoring the product behaviour by Raman and NIR spectroscopy will lead to a better understanding and a more efficient development of freeze-drying processes.
