Development of generic twin-screw granulation and drying models
The pharmaceutical industry is gaining more and more interest in developing continuous production processes due to its advantages (avoiding scale-up issues, improved product quality, shorter development cycle times…), regulatory encouragement and importance of cost reduction. The ConsiGma™ continuous manufacturing line is already used by several large pharmaceutical companies. Although much research has been performed so far to understand the underlying mechanism of this commercially available production line and to predict optimal operational conditions, there is interest in developing generic mechanistic models that can be used for a wide variety of formulations. Therefore, the aim of this study is to build generic twin-screw granulation and drying mechanistic models to predict optimal operational settings for new formulations.
