Biography
He holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven). He completed his master’s thesis at the Soft Matter, Rheology, and Technology (SMaRT) lab of the Leuven NanoCentre, focusing on the impact of different formulations on the rheological behavior of antifungal biotherapeutic glycyrrhizin-based hydrogels.
Summary of Research Project
Film-coated tablets are the most preferred pharmaceutical dosage form. Enhancing formulation development and optimization, as well as process development through predictive modeling, can significantly reduce R&D expenses for new drugs. Due to the complexity of the tablet film coating process and the absence of predictive capabilities for film coating, formulation and process development often rely on the formulator's experience.
The goal of this project is to address essential gaps and improve the fundamental understanding of key mechanisms in coating development. Specifically, we aim to develop innovative predictive models for coating processes that can quantify, forecast, and optimize the impact and interactions of formulation, equipment, and process parameters on critical quality attributes.
