‘From must to enthousiasm for Physical Education: the teacher as a motivating coach’

In this interactive workshop you will get a refreshing look at the current teaching practice from the scientific point of view of the Self-Determination Theory. The following questions will be addressed:

  • Which different types of motivation exists,
  • which types of motivation are good and which are not,
  • how do these different types of motivation relate to the teaching style of the teacher and
  • how can teachers coach in a motivating way?

We will provide alternative options to motivate the students through very concrete and useful tips, video material and case studies. In addition, these motivational strategies can be immediately tried out in an authentic lesson situation in the form of microteaching.

Duration: Full day (6 hours) – workshops of shorter or longer duration are negotiable

Getting started with supporting roles in the Physical Education class

How can you integrate supporting roles such as feedback provider, but also those of coach or referee in a feasible and efficient way in your lessons? And what are the benefits, but also the pitfalls of working with these supporting roles?
In this theoretical session we provide the framework to get started with the supporting roles. We describe the skills, the knowledge and the attitudes that students need to perform the supporting role and at the same time discuss how you can build the role from easy to difficult. We explain the steps that you can use to develop roles within your own practice and we also provide tips on how to guide and evaluate the role. The session focusses primarily on secondary education.

Duration: 3 hours – workshops of shorter or longer duration are negotiable
