Core BioAnalytical Tools & Tech

The Core BioAnalytical Tools & Tech (BATT), a recognised core facility at UGent, provides basic and widely used BioAnalytical equipment and associated technology and expertise for application in Biomedical Translational Research at UGent.

This is a initiative of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and is organised by a core team led by prof. dr. Griet Glorieux.

Infrastructure, services and expertise

The infrastructure provided within this Core Facility,  encompasses a wide range of categories, which may include but are not limited to the following:  

  • Purification and Isolation: This category involves processes such as filtration, centrifugation, and chromatographic purification aimed at purifying and isolating preparations or compounds. 
  • Compound Detection, Identification, and Quantification: This category encompasses methods for detecting, identifying, and quantifying compounds based on various properties, including colorimetric, enzymatic, physicochemical, and immunological attributes. It includes techniques like photometry, colorimetry, calorimetry, luminometry, ELISpot, chromatography and fluorometry. 
  • Basic Microscopy: This category refers to indispensable microscopic techniques that are not considered advanced, as distinguished from advanced light microscopy included in Core GLIM.
