Core Movelab

The Core Movelab, a recognised core facility at UGent, provides know-how for lab-based and ambulatory evaluation of exercise capacity, sports performance, locomotion, motor skills and movement behaviour, and provides them to the UGent research community and external partners.

This is an initiative based on two strong pillars: Department of Rehabilitation Sciences (Campus UZ Gent) and Sport Science Laboratory (SSL) – Jacques Rogge (Campus Dunant). It is organized by a core team led by prof. dr. Wim Derave and prof. dr. Erik Witvrouw.

Infrastructure, services and expertise

Expertise and services can be offered in five clusters. The equipment is usually available at both locations (SSL & Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Campus UZ Gent), with measurements in healthy volunteers usually taking place at the SSL and in clinical populations usually at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. Mobile devices (including sensors, IR cameras, EMG devices,…) can be exchanged for each study.

  • Cluster 1: Biomechanical movement analyses
  • Cluster 2: Exercise tests and ergometry
  • Cluster 3: Muscle force evaluation
  • Cluster 4: Non-invasive function measurements
  • Cluster 5: Ambulatory/mobile sensors
