Core ARTH Histology

The Core ARTH Histology, a recognised facility at UGent, provides specialised equipment, services and expertise for the fixation, embedding, sectioning and staining of tissue samples for microscopic analysis.

This is an initiative of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and is coordinated by a core team led by prof. Lindsey Devisscher.

Terms of use

1. Follow (basic) training.

  • Basic training 'Core ARTH Histology - The Basics' to learn basic skills for independent use of the instruments within Core ARTH Histology.
  • All courses are part of the Faculty Research Training Programme, module: Core Facilities. Several sessions per year are organised on the basis of enrolments. The sessions take place on every first Monday of the onpare months (ex. July) in Block B (2nd floor) - Core ARTH Histology each time. Register here.

2. Reserve your use at least 7 working days in advance via the Core Facility Management Software platform (CFMS platform).

  • Make your reservation for an instrument, service or product via the CFMS platform. See how to make your reservation here.
  • Please keep the following details in mind when making your reservation:
    • For Tissue Processing: Tissues are delivered in a cassette by 3pm every Monday at the latest. For a larger number of samples (>50), processing may take place on a day other than Monday.
    • For Tissue Embedding and Microtome: Reserve sufficient time (min. 30 minutes) to process your material.
    • For Automatic histological staining (H&E, Sirius Red), Automatic deparaffinisation, Automatic rehydration and Coverslipping: Reserve the instrument as well as the service to be able to perform your activities.
    • For Immunohistochemical staining: these stains are usually done by the researcher himself. Exceptionally, this can be performed as a service.

3. Pay a usage fee.

  • Use of the Core Facility is possible against payment. Provide a cost centre for the user fee within your project application. View the rates here.

4. Follow the agreement framework of the Core Facilities.

5. Mention the Core Facility in your scientific output.
