Shoulder Research

Within this line of research, the 'Orthopaedics and Traumatology Research Group' strives to understand the underlying mechanisms of shoulder pain and to develop optimal treatment methods in order to control them. The research contains both laboratory and clinical studies.

Research projects

Osteoarthritis of the shoulder

To optimize the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis, a study is being conducted of various factors that may influence the outcome:

1. patient-related factors: 3D CT evaluation of pathological shoulders

2. implant-related factors: biomechanical studies of various prostheses

3. surgical related factors: long-term follow-up of specific surgical techniques

Better treatment of collarbone problems

The research focuses on both traumatic suffering (ac luxation, clavicle fracture, sc luxation) and degenerative suffering (ac osteoarthritis, sc osteoarthritis).

Shoulder Database

Together with the TerBrugGen shoulder group, a database is composed for the evaluation of shoulder problems. In this way patients can be monitored better and possible treatments can be adjusted.
