Endourological Research

Within this line of research, the 'Urology Research Group' focuses primarily on kidney stone research: we are researching the development of kidney stones, the assessment, treatment, follow-up and prevention of kidney stones.

Research projects

Prospective collection of data from stone patients

We collect clinical data from all patients who are being treated or monitored for urolithiasis at UZ Gent, which may relate to their urological condition. In the long term, we strive to optimize the care of stone patients by processing these data.

In vitro research into the diagnosis of kidney stones

We research the optimal settings for the detection of urolithiasis and the influence of these settings on the variables to be measured, such as size and density.

Economic analysis of the use of flexible ureteroscopy

We try to measure the actual costs of reusable flexible ureteroscopy and compare them with the use of disposable ureteroscopes. With this information we develop an economic model that should help us determine the most cost-efficient way to handle this material.

Economic analysis of the use of flexible cystoscopy

We try to measure the actual costs of reusable flexible cystoscopy and compare them with the use of disposable cystoscopes. With this information we derive the most cost-efficient approach to the use of flexible cystoscopy in practice.
