History of the collection L26
The Literary Sociology collection originated in the late 1970s, with the creation of a new chair under Raymond Vervliet. In the beginning, mainly German sociological studies were purchased. In the late 1980s, professor Vervliet was given the chair of Comparative Literary Studies. The library of Walter Thys was transferred to this chair. There was enough budget for the further expansion of the collection, with the selection of new publications taking place according to individual preferences.
In the autumn of 2011, the collection was transferred to the Faculty Library of Arts and Philosophy. Part of the collection was stored in the depot (mainly less topical works).
