The research of the Department of Languages and Cultures is situated in the following areas: African languages and cultures (East and Central Africa), Oriental languages and cultures (Middle East & North Africa and South and East Asia (India, China & Japan/Korea)), Eastern European languages and cultures (Russia and South-Eastern Europe), and gender and diversity studies.

Courses

One of the strengths of the department's courses is a broad programme that is tailored to the growing social, political and economic demand for expertise in the languages & cultures and research areas studied.

Two English master programmes are offered.
