Marlies holds a Master in Clinical Psychology (Ghent University, 2020) and a Master in Teaching (Ghent University, 2021). She is a researcher at the research group of Media Innovation and Communication Technologies, as well as at the research group of Developmental Psychology (Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences). Under supervision of Prof. dr. Maarten Vansteenkiste, Prof. dr. Koen Ponnet, and Prof. dr. Bart Soenens, she examines adolescents’ motivations for social media use in the relation with sleep outcomes. To do so, she will adopt a multi-method and person specific approach. She will implement the MobileDNA application to verify whether adolescents can correctly estimate their social media use, and to see how screen time measures relate to subjective parameters, including psychological need-based experiences online and offline, and harmonious or obsessive social media use.
