Prof Christian Hulteberg (Lund University, Sweden) will give a seminar on the incorporation of renewable materials into traditional chemical flows.

Despite the debate on carbon dioxide emissions and climate change, fossil energy use continues to rise due to population growth and higher living standards. While renewable energy from wind and solar is expected to replace fossil fuels in the medium to long term, the chemical industry still requires carbon-based materials for everyday products.

Renewable materials like lignin and glycerol, along with recycled materials, offer potential alternatives. This talk will focus on recycling polyolefins, polyester, rubber tires, and windmill blades as sources of raw materials. Commercialization efforts will be discussed, highlighting the bridge between idea and implementation in catalysis and process chemistry.
