Korte beschrijving

Porcine ear necrosis (PEN) is marked by blue to black discoloration and necrosis of the ear tips, primarily affecting nursery pigs. Despite being documented since the 1980s, its etiology and pathogenesis remains unknown, and experimental reproduction of the condition has not been successful. Various potential risk factors for PEN include poor air quality, high stocking density, and mycotoxin contamination in feed. To bridge the current knowledge gaps, this thesis undertook a comprehensive investigation into porcine ear necrosis (PEN) across Belgian pig farms.
