- Svitlana Tretiak was born on May 15th, 1997, in Lutsk, Ukraine. In 2019, she obtained her Master’s degree in Biotechnology and Food Sciences at Lodz Polytechnic University, Poland. As of April 1st, 2020, Svitlana started her PhD at the Department of Pathobiology, Pharmacology and Zoological Medicine, in the Livestock Gut Health Team, conducting part of the research at the VIB Proteomics Core (PRC). Her research project focused on discovering blood plasma biomarkers for intestinal health in broilers. This PhD project was supported through a VLAIO Baekeland mandate in close cooperation with Impextraco NV. Svitlana is author or co-author of several scientific publications and she presented her work on different international conferences.

Korte beschrijving
In broilers, balanced functioning of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) is essential for optimal nutrient digestion, and absorption, and is one of the key components of overall animal wellbeing and performance. However, increasing incidences of enteric diseases, coupled with the stress of high feed intake, have caused global economic losses. The ban on antimicrobial growth promoters (AGPs) in the EU due to antimicrobial resistance has exacerbated this issue, prompting the need for accurate, non-invasive diagnostic tools. This PhD project aimed to discover blood-based biomarkers for gut health monitoring in broilers using advanced proteomic approaches.
