Join us for the latest edition of the public lecture series Rights Bites with Dr. Kristin van Damme and Babette De Naeyer.
In an era where disinformation spreads rapidly and undermines democratic processes, journalists play a crucial role in safeguarding the public sphere. This session of ‘Rights Bites’ will explore some regulatory measures to counter mis- and disinformation while upholding freedom of expression.
We will discuss the importance of proactive measures such as media literacy education, strengthening local journalism, and promoting ethical reporting standards. Additionally, we will examine how journalists can navigate challenges posed by the economic downfall of the news industry, social media algorithms, and political pressures. By reinforcing journalistic integrity and fostering public trust, the media can act as a powerful force against disinformation, without infringing upon citizens’ right to freedom of expression.
