Description of strategies that use both renewable and petroleum-derived feedstocks to create tailor-made advanced functional polymeric materials.

The increasing demand for functional materials in recent years has driven the need for the adoption of efficient, sustainable, and circular approaches in chemistry. This shift is essential to address environmental concerns, reduce reliance on fossil-based feedstocks, and enhance process efficiency.

To meet these challenges, innovative strategies must be developed that not only enable the synthesis of high-performance polymeric materials but also align with the principles of green and circular chemistry by minimizing waste, reducing energy consumption, and promoting recyclability.

This lecture will focus on the design and discovery of novel transformations using both renewable and petroleum-derived feedstocks to create tailor-made functional polymeric materials with advanced properties. Special emphasis will be placed on the versatility of novel and old (multicomponent) reactions and photo-induced processes, which offer efficient and sustainable pathways for polymer synthesis.
